Dimensionally stable laminated timber panel for facades

Strong, cost-effective, and protective facade panel made of spruce timber.

Laminated timber panel made from high-quality northern Swedish spruce with extra width

Choose laminated timber panel made from durable northern Swedish spruce of high quality. The lamellas are glued with partly vertical annual rings, resulting in laminated timber panels that move less, have lower moisture content, and are less prone to cracking. The industry standard for dry splitting is aimed at a target moisture content of approximately 16 percent. Lamtech works with timber that has a moisture content of 14 percent, providing a more stable and durable laminated timber panel, ideal for facades. During our manufacturing process, multiple manual inspections ensure that each laminated timber panel always maintains high quality and strength. The panel is delivered untreated, but can also be supplied primed, intermediate-coated, and fire-retardant impregnated. The painting services we use employ products from Falu Vapen's clay paint and Jotun's standard opaque paints, as well as stain in various shades. Fire impregnation is conducted at Woodsafe in Västerås.

What widths are available for laminated timber panels?

There are different widths available for laminated timber panels. At Lamtech, we offer 215, 250, and 300 millimeters. With a wide panel on the facade, the house not only gets a beautiful surface, but the panel also helps save time during installation because fewer boards are needed to cover the facade. The laminated timber panel is 25 millimeters thick, making it lightweight and easy to handle. All laminated timber panels at Lamtech are finger-jointed, which allows for quick assembly of the boards and minimizes waste. This eliminates the need for manual fitting and adjustments. With less waste, there is not only a reduction in construction waste but also better construction economics.

How strong is laminated timber panel as a facade?

Cladding houses with panels is one of the most common facades in Sweden, with a long tradition of wooden houses. A wooden facade can last up to 50 years, depending on where in the country the house is located, the type of panel, and the quality of the timber. However, a wooden facade requires regular maintenance, and you can expect it to need painting approximately every ten years. You benefit greatly from choosing timber where the spruce has grown slowly and has a low moisture content. This provides strong timber that is less prone to warping or bowing when exposed to rain, snow, and sun. It reduces the risk of needing to replace panel boards prematurely and provides protection against moisture. All laminated timber panels at Lamtech are glued with two-component adhesive, which enables them to withstand weather and wind without absorbing moisture or cracking. Here you can see some examples of facades using laminated timber panels from us.

What is the difference between horizontal and vertical paneling?

The main difference is that horizontal paneling is mounted vertically along the house facade and vertical paneling is mounted horizontally. There has long been a debate in the construction industry about which paneling is more durable and strong, with the view that vertical paneling provides better protection against moisture and rain often prevailing. This is based on the belief that moisture would more easily penetrate the joints of horizontal paneling. It's important to remember that regardless of the paneling type, it's the end grain that needs protection from weather elements and is the vulnerable point in a wooden facade.

However, if you choose Lamtech's horizontal laminated timber paneling, it is profiled with a single bevel that creates a natural drip edge at the bottom of each board. This prevents rainwater from entering the wood, ensuring that water and snow run off the facade. Even with vertical paneling, Lamtech's laminated timber panels are planed with a profile that helps water run along the facade instead of penetrating behind the wood. Additionally, all boards are tongue and groove jointed in such a way that the end grain is also protected from weather elements. How should paneling be mounted most effectively?

Lamtech's laminated timber paneling is easy and quick to install, and you can find installation instructions here next to it. Remember to start the installation from the correct direction so that the joints are positioned to facilitate and assist water droplets in running off the facade. Begin the installation from the bottom and work your way upwards. The first panel board should be mounted at least 30 cm above the ground to prevent the facade from being damaged by splashing water from below.

Ensure that you maintain the correct distance between the studs. The recommended spacing is 600 mm. Also, ensure that there is an air gap behind the paneling. Choose the right length of screws and nails so that the paneling is securely fastened. Each panel board should be secured with two screws or nails every 600 mm. Note that panels with a width of 300 mm may require three screws or nails. Screws and nails used for laminated timber paneling should have a surface treatment.

All end grains should be painted or treated once before the installation begins. This applies to the tongue and groove joints as well. Lamtech's laminated timber paneling can be delivered primed, with an intermediate coat, or fire retardant treated. If you have any questions or would like to place an order, feel free to contact us!

What screw or nail is best for installing laminated timber paneling?

There are several options to choose from, but it's important to ensure that the nail or screw is 48 mm in length. Two good options are Senco panel nails or Gunnebo panel screws, either stainless steel or C4 treated.

What type of house is suitable for Lamtech's laminated timber panel?

Summer cottages, sports cabins, residential homes, villas, stables, garages, and factory buildings - Lamtech's laminated timber panel is suitable for all types of buildings that can have a wooden facade. With various widths of panels available and the option to use them horizontally or vertically, there are ample opportunities to create beautiful and unique houses with us. A good tip is not to choose too wide horizontal panels for low houses, as it can give the impression that the house is smaller than it actually is. If you want to see examples of how the panel can be used, there are several houses and buildings where Lamtech's panel and decking are used here.

Can you deliver the panels painted?

They use Jotun's covering paint, Jotun's stain, and Faluvapen's traditional Swedish red paint. As a customer, you have the option to choose the color you want for the panels. For more questions regarding painting, please email or call us.

Can you deliver the panels fire-impregnated?

Of course, we can deliver the panels fire-impregnated. Please send an email and request a quote. The approximate delivery time for fire-impregnated panels is 8-10 weeks. We have conducted an SBI test, achieving a classification of B-s1, d0, which is the highest possible rating for combustible materials. See the PDF in the right-hand menu under profile sketches.
